“Pariah” screening & discussion at UAA Friday, Nov. 2
Pariah, a critically acclaimed film about a 17-year-old African-American woman embracing her lesbian identity, will screen at UAA on Friday, November 2, and will be followed by a discussion on acceptance in honor of Mya Dale. The event is free and open to the public.
Bully screens at the Bear Tooth, June 8–14
Bully (film)Bully examines the dire consequences of bullying through the stories of five students who face bullying on a daily basis. It will be shown at the Bear Tooth in Anchorage from Friday, June 8 through Thursday, June 14 (except Monday).

Transgender peer support group meets in Fairbanks — Thursday, June 7
The Fairbanks & Interior peer-to-peer transgender support group is meeting this Thursday, June 9, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fairbanks (UUFF). Meetings are open to anyone who identifies as transgender, genderqueer, gender-questioning, gender-bending, or friends/family members/supporters.

Wednesday, June 6: It’s a jam-packed Pride Week day in Anchorage, with two showings of “On These Shoulders We Stand,” local and national LGBT poets at Out North’s Pride Parley, and lube wrestling and float–building at the Raven.

Tuesday, June 5: It’s an athletic Pride Week evening, with a fun run (or walk) at Westchester Lagoon with Anchorage Frontrunners, a Pride hike to Flattop with Arctic Foxes Rugby Club, or a wet slide to pride with the Imperial Court at H2Oasis. Or, head over to UAA to learn about LGBT history with a screening of “On These Shoulders We Stand.”
On These Shoulders We Stand: Early gay life and activism in L.A. — June 5–6 in Anchorage
Not everything began with Stonewall. On These Shoulders We Stand is an illuminating historical account of early gay life and activism in Los Angeles told by the people who lived it. For those of us who supported Prop 5, this film provides perspective and inspiration. The film will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Glenne McElhinney, and local activists. Three showings during Pride Week in Anchorage on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 5–6.
“Desert Hearts” returns to the big screen at Out North
Out North bring the lesbian classic Desert Hearts back to the big screen (free!) this Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7. This groundbreaking 1986 film is loosely based on the equally-groundbreaking 1964 novel Desert of the Hearts by Canadian writer Jane Rule.

In “Tomboy” (2011) by filmmaker Céline Sciamma, 10-year-old Laure is a girl who introduces herself to the kids in her new neighborhood as “Mikael”, a boy. “Tomboy” plays at the Bear Tooth in Anchorage on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 5:30 PM.
