Pariah, a critically acclaimed film about a 17-year-old African-American woman embracing her lesbian identity, will screen at UAA on Friday, November 2, and will be followed by a discussion on acceptance in honor of Mya Dale. The event is free and open to the public.

The meaning of Mya Dale’s death is one thing, the meaning of her life is another. Let’s put suicide in its place, but let’s also honor and celebrate the life of a beautiful and remarkable person. A memorial service will take place this Friday, June 29: wear orange.

We lost one of our beautiful young ones two days ago. Mya Dale died Wednesday morning, June 20. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and all she touched in our community.

On These Shoulders We Stand: Not everything began with Stonewall.

Not everything began with Stonewall. On These Shoulders We Stand is an illuminating historical account of early gay life and activism in Los Angeles told by the people who lived it. For those of us who supported Prop 5, this film provides perspective and inspiration. The film will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Glenne McElhinney, and local activists. Three showings during Pride Week in Anchorage on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 5–6.

Stand-up comedian Paula Poundstone visited Fairbanks last August with the cast and crew of NPR’s news quiz show, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! She liked it so well that she’s coming back to Alaska in March, with shows in Juneau (March 15), Anchorage (March 16), and Fairbanks (March 17).
