Alone in the crowd: Racial/ethnic identity & acceptance — Sunday, Aug 26
Does racial/ethnic identity affect our ability to accept ourselves, accept others, or feel accepted by those around us? Please join us for a discussion in honor of Mya Dale — Sunday, August 26 at the Sugarspoon (on Spenard north of Northern Lights).
Some of what we’ll be discussing is suggested by B.E.’s “Messages from Mya Dale: A Eulogy”. Is racial/ethnic identity important to the extent that it affects our experience? How or where do we get it? Does it affect whether or not we accept ourselves and feel accepted by others? How important is community in the quest for, or feeling comfortable about one’s identity? We’ll grapple with these and other tough questions together.
Bring your mind. All are welcome.
This is the second in the Acceptance discussion series in honor of Mya Dale. The third topic will be on “Gender/ Orientation Identity,” possibly to be held on September 1. There will be two additional workshops during the Alaska Pride Conference on October 6 on the topic of “Acceptance: an alternative approach to suicide intervention.”
