Fairbanks Pride 2012: Golden Days Parade & post-parade picnic Saturday, July 21
Let the Gold Times Roll with Fairbanks PFLAG at the 60th annual Golden Days Parade this Saturday, July 21 in Fairbanks. Afterwards, come to the post-parade picnic at Pioneer Park.
The Golden Days Parade is part of Fairbanks’ annual Golden Days Festival, a multi-day festival that honors Fairbanks history. In recent years, the Fairbanks LGBQIA community has celebrated both Golden Days and Rainbow Days — i.e., Pride — by taking part in the Golden Days festivities with a PFLAG float and an after-party and cookout. This year’s parade entry will again use the 100-foot rainbow flag on loan from Miami — so volunteers are needed to help carry the flag along the parade route.
All LGBT-friendly members of the community are welcome to participate. Participants under 18 must fill out a parental permission form. Stating is at the Carlson Center at Space 56 by 9:30 AM. People can park across from Carlson Center or park at the end of the parade route around Gaffney and Cushman and get a ride to Carlson. The Parade begins at 10:00 AM sharp.
“Let the Gold Times Roll”! Our party float will be fierce, just like last year’s, with music, costumes and dancers! We’ll let the kids hand out packs of Skittles, stickers & other swag.
After the parade, join in the fun from 1:00 to 5:00 PM for the after-party and cookout at the Moose Pavilion in Pioneer Park. The community will be party rocking to the music, playing volleyball and enjoying burgers and dogs with all the fixings. Feel free to bring a dish to share!
Please invite friends and family to these free and fabulous events, and “Let the Gold Times Roll” :)
