Pride Foundation and chocolate! — Thursday, June 14
Join Pride Foundation in welcoming Pride Foundation’s new Executive Director, Kris Hermanns, on her inaugural trip to the Last Frontier! The Second Annual Chocolate Feast for LGBTQ Equality is a reception for Pride Foundation friends, donors, scholars, and grantees past and present hosted by Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge on Thursday, June 14.
Serving the northwest states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Wasthington, Pride Foundation is the only LGBTQ community foundation in Alaska. Kris Hermanns was announced as Pride Foundation’s new executive director in November 2011 after a nationwide search, and started work this past January. She previously was Deputy Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) based in San Francisco for six years. Read more about her at the Pride Foundation blog.
Tiffany McClain (at right in photo below) is Pride Foundation’s full-time Regional Development Organizer in Alaska, based in Anchorage. She travels throughout Alaska meeting donors, volunteers, grantees, and scholars from Juneau to Bethel, Fairbanks to Homer, and points in between. Pride Foundation also has a Leadership Action Team in Alaska — a group of Alaska volunteers who provides guidance and advice to staff. Members of the 2012 Leadership Action Team are from Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, and included Thomas Azzarella, Kara Carlson, Andrew Quainton, Brittany Luddington, Jennifer Mannix,Debra O’Gara, and Amy Young.
Building on the first Alaskan grant awarded in the 1990s to support the first annual Pride Conference in Anchorage, Pride Foundation has been growing support for local Alaskan organizations and scholars thanks to donors and volunteers. Pride Foundation awarded grants totaling $10,000 to Alaska nonprofits in December 2011, including Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (Four A’s) (Anchorage), Revive the Red Tent Productions (Fairbanks), Out North Contemporary Art House (Anchorage), West Valley High School Gay-Straight Alliance (Fairbanks), and Juneau Pride Chorus (Juneau). More recently, Pride Foundation announced the awarding of $21,500 in scholarships to Alaska students.
Come celebrate Pride Foundation’s work in Alaska and throughout the Northwest, meet some of their volunteers and scholars and their new executive director, and eat (or drink!) really really good chocolate!
