Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Pride. Alaska Pride Fest 2012.Wednesday, June 6: It’s a jam-packed Pride Week day in Anchorage, with two showings of “On These Shoulders We Stand,” local and national LGBT poets at Out North’s Pride Parley, and lube wrestling and float–building at the Raven.

On These Shoulders We Stand at Anchorage Senior Activity Center

On These Shoulders We Stand: Not everything began with Stonewall.On These Shoulders We Stand is a documentary about LGBT civil rights history on the west coast — before Stonewall. It chronicles the lives of eleven elders, from their early years to their coming out, to their groundbreaking activism for the rights of all LGBT people. The film will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Glenne McElhinney, and local activists. UAA’s The Family, sponsor of this presentation of On These Shoulders We Stand, will meet after the film event to finish their “Tie-Dye for Pride” shirts.

Pride Parley at Out North

Out North Contemporary Art HouseIn celebration of Gay Pride Month, Out North is pleased to host AK Pride’s first gay parley. Come and listen to poetry written by local and national gay artists — living and dead. Coffee and mood lighting provided. Free event. All ages.

Lube Wrestling at The Raven (fundraiser for GLCCA)

The RavenLube up contestants in a live auction to raise money for the Gay & Lesbian Community Center, hosted by The Last Frontier Men’s Club.
