Northern Exposure 3.0, June 15–17 in Anchorage

Submitted by on Monday, 11 June 2012 – 11:31 AMNo Comment

Northern ExposureNorthern Exposure is a weekend long, kick ass KINK flavored event full of educational workshops & classes, meals and parties, June 15 through 17 in Anchorage. Update: Event organizer Sarha Shaubach answers questions about the event.

With the purpose of fostering foundations in learning and community, Northern Exposure is an event full of education hosted in a private venue for 130 Alaskans. More than 30 classes and workshops will be taught by educators from all over North America. Gather Friday morning for a catered registration brunch, wander our kinky vendor market all three days, enjoy two nighttime parties, midnight snacks, brown bag lunches, and finish the weekend off right with the Northern Exposure Wrap-up and Award Show Dinner, plus all of the classes in between!

NE3.0 is a PRIVATE event, you must have a ticket to attend.

Come join us for Fetish Exploration and FUN! Check out the NE3.0 presenters from all over the country and Canada.

NE3.0 organizer Sarha Shaubach answered a few questions about the event:

Bent Alaska: There’s been a leather community in Anchorage for a long time, but much of it is fairly well-hidden. Why is that? What are the best ways for leather folks to meet and get together?

Sarha ShaubachSarha: The leather and kink communities are hidden because we understand that it isn’t everyone’s thing. We don’t with to shove our ideas down anyone’s throat. That being said, if you search for us, we’re not hard to find. All over Alaska there are groups meeting for socialization, education and dungeon parties. If you want to join us the best place to start would be at a coffee or munch as we call them. Very casual get-togethers.

Bent Alaska: What’s special about the leather community here? What’s its relationship to Alaska’s LGBTQ community?

Sarha: The community here in Alaska has had to forge it’s own way. We don’t have the resources that San Francisco or Los Angeles has. We’ve had to figure out how to do things that fit with the way of life here in Alaska. I enjoy working on events that combine the kink/leather communities with the LGBTQ community. When we support each other we can create some amazing results that by ourselves we’re too small to achieve.

Bent Alaska: Where do NE3’s presenters come from? How about its participants — are they all Alaskans, or do they come from all over?

Sarha: Our presenters come from all over the States. We’ve always had a couple from Canada as well. It is great to see people from all over teaching here. They all have their own experiences from their own areas. Most of the attendees are from Alaska but we do get some people who want to attend a BDSM conference and find it an added bonus that they get to see the beautiful state of Alaska at the same time.

Bent Alaska: What are the most important thing(s) you’d like people to know about NE3?

Sarha: NE3 is open to everyone who wants to learn more about alternative sexuality. We have classes on many different topics and they will appeal to novices and experts alike. Don’t feel that you have to be dressed head to toe in leather to walk in the door. Anyone who wants to have fun and learn new things will have a good time at NE3.

Bent Alaska: Thanks, Sarha! I’ll be coming to check things out myself.
