In January 2011, Johnmichael, a driver for Eagle Cabs in Fairbanks, was assaulted and robbed by a fare, who left him badly injured. The Fairbanks GLBT community stepped up to help him with medical and living costs at a time he couldn’t work. Now Johnmichael is thanking the community with a series of fundraisers, beginning with a Hamburger & Hotdog Fundraiser for the Interior Aids Association on Saturday, June 9.

As a thank you to the GLBT community for supporting me during my time of need last year after I got gay bashed, I am hosting a series of fundraisers for the various gay & gay friendly organizations. This first fundraiser is going to support Interior Aids Association (IAA).

IAA is such a worthy cause. We all know that IAA is the place to go to get our HIV testing and to pick up some free condoms (i’m sure i’ve picked up more then $15 in free condoms alone). But did you know that IAA also provides prevention education, along with counseling, housing and food assistance for people living with HIV? Or did you know that IAA also has a methadone program that offers counseling for opiate addiction and free needle exchange to minimize exposer to HIV?

This is an all ages event so if you’re 21+ and plan to drink you must bring your own.

• Cost of admission: NOBODY will be turned away (except the guy that gay bashed me of course); but please consider a minimum donation of $15 donation (though donations of any size will be accepted). Credit card donations accepted.
