Mad Myrna’s presents Jesus Christ Superstar performed by One Man With One Guitar, LIVE on the Mad Myrna’s stage on Saturday, February 26. EJ Simpson launches his Anchorage-to-Albuquerque tour with the foot-stomping rock opera featuring the entire sacred, sordid, rockin’ tale from overture to messy death!

According to a bio at the PSALM Salon in Philadelphia — whence E.J. Simpson hails, and where he’ll be performing his solo JCSuperstar in April —

E.J. SIMPSON’s life has been Music for as long as his life has been Life, beginning on piano and vocals as a child in Kansas. Returning to his native Philadelphia, E.J. sang in a church choir and played bass in the political rap group The Goats before touring internationally and recording 9 CD’s with the trio Maggi, Pierce And E.J. (MPEband). He is currently at work on his 2nd solo album while playing with many varied bands and songwriters in Philly and New York as well as a solo, annual performance of JCSuperstar.

E.J. has been doing his solo show of Jesus Christ Superstar annually for 5 years, performing 21 songs total, including every song from the original album release and a few verses taken from the movie.

Need a refresher before the show? Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice.  It was first staged on Broadway in 1971, but had its start two years earlier as a rock opera concept recording. Loosely based on the biblical account of Jesus’ life, the rock opera’s story follows the course of a medieval passion play, beginning with preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with Jesus’ crucifixion.  Jesus Christ Superstar has been widely staged and there are numerous recordings, including the original London concept recording, the original 1971 Broadway production, and the soundtrack to the 1973 film adaptation. The film is also available on DVD.
