One Weekend for One Anchorage: Friday Night Divas go all out for equality

Submitted by on Thursday, 5 January 2012 – 11:02 AM2 Comments

One Weekend for One AnchorageThe Friday Night Divas are hosting a Friday/Saturday doubleheader this weekend at the Anchorage nightclub Mad Myrna’s to benefit One Anchorage in its campaign to gain passage of the Anchorage Equal Rights Initiative in the Anchorage municipal election on April 3.

Join the Friday Night Divas for back to back nights of Anchorage’s best entertainment, at Alaska’s premier gay cabaret nightclub — in support of One Anchorage. As Daphne says, “All means ALL!”

One Anchorage is made up of everyday Alaskans with one common goal: to secure the exact same legal protections for gay, lesbian, gay, and transgender Alaskans that we already provide in the Municipality of Anchorage to women, minorities, and others. The Anchorage Equal Rights Initiative, which was certified on December 14 to appear on the ballot for the April 3 municipal election, seeks to amend Anchorage’s equal rights code to provide the same legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or transgender identity that are already provided based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, age, physical disability, and mental disability. Learn more about this effort at the One Anchorage website, or see Bent Alaska’s stories on the effort.

  • Date/time: Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7, 9:00 to 11:30 PM
  • Location: Mad Myrna’s, 530 E. 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK (see map)
  • Cost of admission: $5 door charge. All proceeds during the show and door charge benefits One Anchorage.
  • Further info: see Facebook events page

Is your event not on our calendar? No matter where you are in the state, if you’re running an event of interest to the LGBTQA community, we’d be glad to put it on the  Bent Alaska events calendar.
