Blue Christmas service Dec. 21 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Anchorage

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will hold a Blue Christmas Service on Wednesday evening, December 21, for those experiencing grief and loss during the holiday season.

CandlesFor those of us experiencing grief and loss, the holidays can be an especially hard time. “Christmas” doesn’t feel merry and the thought of a new year doesn’t bring happiness though all around us, we are told that this is the most wonderful time of the year.

On Dec. 21 beginning at 7:00 p.m., St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is hosting a Blue Christmas service in the Sanctuary. The service is quiet and contemplative — an opportunity to honor your sadness with others who are feeling that same sense of loss. There are readings, silence and an opportunity to light candles in remembrance. A table is set up for folks to place photos and items that represent those losses, whether it be through death, the ending of a relationship, or transition.

Please join us. This, like all services at St. Mary’s, is open to everyone. For more information, please contact The Rev. Sara Gavit at 563-3341.

  • Date/time: Wednesday, December 21, 7:00 PM
  • Location: St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 2222 East Tudor Road, Anchorage, Alaska (see map)
  • Further info: contact The Rev. Sara Gavit at 563-3341.

Is your event not on our calendar? No matter where you are in the state, if you’re running an event of interest to the LGBTQA community, we’d be glad to put it on the  Bent Alaska events calendar.
