This weekend in LGBTQ Alaska (7/29/11): Fairbanks Ducal Ball & Hedwig’s last weekend
This weekend’s big events in Fairbanks are a late morning bar-hopping float down the Chena River and the Fairbanks Ducal Ball at the Blue Loon. In Anchorage, it’s the very last weekend to see Out North’s production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Those events and more, plus a preview of what’s coming up next week.
For further details on any of these events, go to our Alaska LGBTQ events page, and click on the event you’re interested in on the calendar. There you’ll find all the details, including date, time, location, cost, and links to where you can get further information.

This weekend
Anchorage
- “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is in its last weekend at Out North! One show on Friday night and two shows Saturday. So don’t miss it! I just got my tickets, you should too! See our article about it, and buy your tickets at Centertix.
- Anchorage weekend is ever not a drag — but we have less drag this weekend than heretofore. On Friday, Mad Myrna’s Friday Night Diva Variety Show. But Kodiak Bar & Grill is currently without a regular show, and the Crazy Horse’s Illusions Show is currently on hiatus. “We are more or less waiting for the fall and colder weather,” Ms. Diedra tells us, but she promises to let us know as soon as Illusions starts heating up those cooler autumn nights.
Fairbanks
- Raft with Queens and Divas on the Chena River beginning Saturday morning at 10:30. They’ll be stopping at random bars along the way — for pee breaks, they say — but we know what else for!
- Fairbanks Ducal Ball XIX at the Blue Loon Saturday night will see the stepdown of Grand Duke Lynnette and Duchess Kara and accession of new nobility, voting on and awarding of the Rochelle Delite Award, and the hostessing skills of the great Daphne DoAll LaChores! An after-party will be hosted by DJ 50/50.
