Fairbanks Pride 2011: Parade, picnic and concert with Summer Osborne
Fairbanks Pride is rockin’ this year! In addition to marching in the Golden Days Parade with a ginormous rainbow Pride flag, PFLAG is bringing up Summer Osborne to perform at both the family friendly Pride Picnic right after the parade and at the Blue Loon that evening. Go, Fairbanks!
“I am overwhelmed at the love and support we have recieved from the people we are working with in Alaska,” Summer told Bent Alaska. “A special thanks to PFLAG for getting us there! We have been on Operation Infect The Nation ((with love)) and we CANNOT WAIT to meet everyone in Alaska!! I am SO STOKED!!”
Here is the schedule for Fairbanks Pride on Saturday, July 23, 2011:
Parade – 10:00am
PFLAG and Pride Foundation are sponsoring this year’s GLBT float in the Golden Days Parade. We are hoping that you will join the march, as we will have a 100 foot long Rainbow Flag! Usually, the flag is 20ft. – to give you an idea of how big this will be. So we need a large force to march with Pride at the parade!
You are welcome to attend in any attire, but preference will be for participants to wear either rainbow Pride colors, 1900’s gold rush get-up, or a combo of both. Feel free to go all out!
All are welcome to march with us, children under the age of 18 will be required to have parental consent forms signed before the start of the parade. A few forms will be available that morning. Parking will be at Carlson Center or Ryan Middle School to catch a shuttle, last bus leaves at 9am.
Picnic – Noon
Directly after the parade, from 12-2pm, a family friendly picnic will be hosted at Pioneer Park with performer Summer Osborne and DJ 50/50 providing entertainment. This event is free and open to the public. Some food will be available and of course you are encouraged to bring anything else you may want to snack on. A grill will be provided for your use. No alcohol please!
Concert – 8pm
Finally, Summer Osborne from St. Louis will be performing a more adult oriented concert at the Blue Loon from 8pm to 11pm. Fee is $10 at the door. DJ and dancing to follow!
Summer Osborne is a singer/songwriter from the St. Louis, MO area… It is difficult to put her in a genre category, but her music could be described as folk soul, acoustic rock, and piano pop. If Adele, Phoebe Snow, and Joss Stone had a love child… it would be her. Only $10 at the door! Come see one of St. Louis’ great performers, one night only at the Blue Loon in Fairbanks!
