This weekend

Anchorage

  • A Three Veils weekend at Out North as our favorite local theater & arts house brings filmmaker Rolla Selbak and actress Sheetal Sheth to Anchorage for a house party/barbecue, a film workshop, and a special screening of Rolla’s film Three Veils, in which Sheetal stars.
  • The Loud and PROUD all ages dance on Friday, also at Out North, promises a night of exceptional music and exceptional people. Make a night of it! — attend the Three Veils house party/barbecue, & then stay over & kick up your heels!
  • The Alaska Run For Women, starting Saturday morning from the Sullivan Arena, is the third largest all-women’s run in the U.S, with a record 7,100 participants in its 2010 run. All funds raised by this annual run are used in the fight against breast cancer.
  • “The Sound of Fairview” Block Party 2011, courtesy Fairview Community Council, will rock the Fairview neighborhood with great music & lots of family fun. And just what are the Friday Night Divas doing out on a Saturday afternoon?!!!  This isn’t a “gay” event, but it is a gay-and-everybody-else-inclusive event — just what every neighborhood & community event should be.
  • Anchorage loves drag, and we’ve got the weekends to prove it with Mad Myrna’s Friday Night Diva Variety Show on — guess what — Friday night; and Kodiak Bar & Grill’s Lip Gloss Review on Saturday night. The Crazy Horse’s Illusions Show (formerly Illusions of Delusion) has switched to an earlier time slot, now on Saturday nights only: check our calendar or the Facebook event page for details.
  • A Pride Month Display will be exhibited all day during the month of June in the southeast lobby of the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse at 222 West 7th Ave, Anchorage (see map). The exhibit is sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fairbanks

  • Irina RivkinWorld-folk live-looping harmony singer-songwriter Irina Rivkin is back in Alaska, with three shows scheduled this weekend in Fairbanks. Local folksinger Inna — Irina’s twin sister — opens and collaborates. Irina will be at the College Coffeehouse Friday, the 25th Annual Fairbanks Summer Folk Festival on Saturday, and a House Concert on Sunday evening.

Juneau

  • SEAGLA Friday Social at the Goldbelt Hotel.

Coming up next week

  • Regular weekly events during the week include Gay, Joyous, and Free AA at Anchorage’s Gay and Lesbian Community Center (Monday); Anchorage Front Runners weekly walk/run (Tuesday); and the Mat-Su LGBT Community Group at Vagabond Blues in Palmer (Wednesday).
