AMP asks: How do couples keep their relationships strong?

Submitted by on Wednesday, 18 May 2011 – 6:00 PMNo Comment

Wedding of Michael Hendricks and René Leboeuf, first same-sex marriage in Quebec; Montreal, 1 April 2004.How do gay and lesbian couples keep their relationships strong? Anchorage MPowerment Project (AMP) would like to invite you to be a part of an evening discussion on Thursday, March 19, to find out.

  • How can I find that perfect someone?
  • What keeps a relationship growing strong?
  • How long can gay and lesbian couples last?
  • I don’t know if I’ll ever settle down.
  • How can I have a relationship that lasts more than a few months?

If you’ve wondered about some of these things then, bring a friend, family member, boyfriend, girlfriend, fag hag, fairy princess, or whoever you’d like to make this a great, informative, and inviting discussion.

AMP is inviting couples from within the gay and lesbian community who have been an “item” for more than just a few years. They’re graciously sharing a fraction of their life experience for this one evening event. Anywhere from 5 years together to over 15 years as a couple, they are willing to lay out:

  • What has helped their relationship continue to be strong?
  • The different things gay & lesbian couples have to still put up with;
  • Medical benefits, retirements, assets, and other financial aspects;
  • How to deal with unsupportive family/friends;
  • How they’ve overcome obstacles; and even
  • What side of the bed to sleep on?

Lesbian coupleholding handsCome join-in on the discussion for yourself. See what has made their relationships work for them and how you can apply some or all of it in your own lives. They can’t tell us what will make your present or future relationships perfect, but they can give invaluable wisdom in what has worked for them.

AMP is looking forward to having a great discussion about life-long love, and loving life along with it. Can’t wait to see you there!

As always, refreshments are provided and there will be ample parking around the building.

  • Date/time: Thursday, May 19, 7-10 PM
  • Location: Four A’s, 1057 West Fireweed, Conference Room (first floor), Anchorage (see map)
  • Cost of admission: Free
  • Further info: See Facebook event page
