Gay pride flags thrown in mud outside youth dance
136 queer and allied youth from Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley attended the Glee-themed Pride Prom last weekend at Out North – and at least one vandal, who took down four of the five rainbow flags decorating the outside of the building. A flag was hung upside down, others were thrown on the ground in the mud.
The adult chaperons found the flags and secured the area without alerting the LGBTA youth, who continued to enjoy the Prom and had a great evening.
As the young maker of this video said, “At the annual Pride Prom in Anchorage, a mal-adjusted individual attempted to rain on our parade… They failed, we had a blast; this is our time!”

Thanks to the chaperons for their quick handling of this incident. Thanks to Identity and Out North, the performers, emcee and dj’s, the GSA students who planned the Glee theme and costume contest and photo booth, the local groups The Family, Spectrum, AMP and ACLU that helped with Prom this year, and all the other volunteers who made Pride Prom a wonderful night to remember for the LGBTA youth of southcentral Alaska.
